Out of the Box with Mr. Knits: I guess it’s not a light switch
Well, I had plans for a seamless transition of some of our finest products to this website. I had a good idea how to turn off stuff on eBay and turn it on here. I really want to avoid a confusing state of flux if possible. There were a few unexpected surprises - the biggest being sharply limited options for sharing shipping cost savings with you.
I did not expect to have less flexibility than eBay, but apparently this is normal for all but the most customized websites. I wanted to offer more than just free shipping over a certain amount. Don’t you just hate when you are 10¢ short to get free shipping? Most of all, some yarns are far more expensive to ship than others, and it is certainly not a price per pound product (the lightest silk is far more expensive than heavy rope). But quantity discounts per product are just not available with our current tools.
For now I set it at $5 shipping & handling, with free shipping over $40. Both numbers are among the lowest online, but it ensures coverage of shipping for even 1 skein in the US and its territories. And don’t worry, I will make sure that 10¢ short situation rarely happens. One example where it could happen is when we transfer our Macramé yarn from eBay to here. It’s an oddity where the 2nd skein nearly doubles the shipping price, but the 3rd skein results in… no increase. So no promises, but you can do the math on where I plan to price that one.
We’ll get to a place of smooth delivery of Happy Knitting from mrsknits.com, and we will persist until that happens.
