Shipping Policies

Mrs. Knits won't stand for her "yummies" being poorly wrapped! To ensure you receive the yarn in new condition, Mr. Knits (pictures right) will use the plastic bag used by the manufacturer inside a plastic mailing bag. So it's at least as well packed as the manufacturer sent it to us. We may instead use a bubble mailer pouch, which will stand up to most shipping lane calamity just as well as double-bagging.

We offer $5 shipping (waived for purchases $40 or higher) to the United States, US territories, Armed Forces addresses, etc. Basically, anywhere served by the United States Postal Service (USPS) is offered this arrangement. We most commonly use USPS first class mail, which we have found to be very reliable overall. To keep shipping costs down, we reserve the right to use a less expensive option such as UPS Ground or FedEx Ground. We’ll ship within 2 business days of receiving your order and payment. We may at our sole discretion ship sooner, upgrade the shipping service (especially for a late shipment), or include a free product when it is cost-effective.

Our shipping provider, Shipping Easy, has given us the ability to select Carbon Neutral shipping. That means for all our shipments to you, Shipping Easy will calculate the carbon costs and donate to a cause to offset them. Details can be found here at the Shipping Easy site.

Drop shipping

What that means, generically speaking, is that one entity takes an order, then directs another entity to ship the item to the customer. For Mrs. Knits Yarn Shop, it means you buy something from us, and I turn around and ask one of our wholesale suppliers to ship the item directly to you.

How will that affect your buying experience at Mrs. Knits Yarn Shop? Not at all when it goes smoothly. So don’t be shy! Most of our drop-ship offerings are LYKKE needle & hook sets, and KFI project kits.

International shipping

We are now shipping to other countries! Here are the current countries outside the USA we ship to, with any special notes.

  • Canada: Yep, there’s a tariff, and UPS seems to work better usually. Pour les Québécois, nous essaierons de fournir des traductions Françaises précises pour le produit que vous recevez. Vous pouvez nous dire si une traduction n'est pas satisfaisante.

  • Australia: A pleasant surprise - seems to be tariff free! Shipping is not bad, but climbs sharply until over 4 pounds (1¾ Kg), so a bigger order results in significant shipping savings.

  • New Zealand: Similar to Australia, shipping takes huge leaps between 0.9kg and 1.8 Kg, then levels off.

  • Chile: Tenemos libre comercio entre de Chile y Los Estados Unidos. Pero es probable que la inspección del paquete retrase la entrega. Prepararemos para eso lo mejor que podamos.

  • South Africa: The good news is you don’t get hit terribly hard with shipping cost until 4 pounds (1¾ Kg). After that, just add more to your cart for savings, the shipping cost increases become much lower.

General rules on shipping outside of the USA:

  • You will be notified of the expected shipping charge before completing checkout. It is based on the least expensive available service from the USPS for that weight.

  • We reserve the right to select a less expensive service if available to your location. If it results in more than $5 (USD) of savings, we’ll share some of that savings with you.

  • If the shipping charge (not including tariff) is more than $5 (USD) over the estimate, we’ll ask you to make up the difference, but giving you the right to cancel the order without penalty.

  • We are looking into charging any required tariff at the time of purchase. We hate surprises and you probably do too. For now, expect to pay the required tariff (if any) as it enters your country.

  • Don’t ask us to do anything illegal, like marking it as a gift. We just refuse to do business that way.

Is your country not listed yet? We still want to try to ship to you. Here’s how:

  1. Email me to confirm we can ship there.

  2. I will ask you to complete a purchase, officially for pickup in Bremerton, WA.

  3. Email me your address if you haven’t done so already, and I will reply with an expected shipping rate.

  4. At this point if you find the shipping cost to be too high, we’ll refund and cancel the order without penalty.

  5. Otherwise we will send you a PayPal request for the shipping amount. After receiving that amount, we’ll ship the order within 2 business days.

  6. Then I will send you the tracking information, which you are encouraged to monitor carefully, and email us at the first sign of trouble.

  7. As one of our favorite cooking TV show personalities is fond of saying, “Your patience will be rewarded.” 🙂

  8. This last step is strictly for Mr. Knits: try to set up shipping to your country permanently!
