Noro Silk Garden Yarn
Noro Yarns are popular among knitters who appreciate the hand spun eco-sensitive and vibrant colors and unique texture. Silk Garden is one of his first and endearing fiber, a blend of silk and mohair that give it a saturated dye and thick and thin tactile texture.
Silk Garden is featured on the cover of many books, including Timeless Noro Knit Blankets 25 colorful & Cozy Throws which is featured in our Fall 2020 trunk show which is due for release on our You Tube channel. There are over 35 shades of self-striping colors from the subtle to the sublime. Mrs. Knit’s created a sample cardigan in color #87 Noshiro which is a bold vibrant combination of pinks, yellows and greens. You can see it on Ravelry under her user name QueenofKnitting2.
Our favorite thing about Noro? We love how the blend of silk and mohair create a unique texture of both suppleness and a hint of fluffy loft and body which the mohair blends with the silk. While many knitters appreciate the random nature of the self-striping colors and unexpected pop of colors, some knitters prefer to create a more uniform color striping. This is also dependent on the width of the garment (for example between a scarf and a sweater) to create “repeats” of colors as they stripe. To create uniformity you can carry 2 skeins and alternate them back and forth and pull one skein from the center and the other from the outside to color coordinate.

According to Wikipedia,
“Eisaku Noro Company, Ltd. is a yarn manufacturer located in the Aichi Prefecture of Japan. The company produces yarns for handcrafting under the Noro brand name, as well as machine yarns for textile production using the Eisaku Noro label. The company was founded over forty years ago by Eisaku Noro. The handcrafting yarns in particular are well known for their vivid colors and combinations of diverse fiber types. They differ from a number of other manufactured yarns in the industry by having lengthier spans of color in the runs, causing distinctive striping patterns, as well as being partially spun by hand versus being produced completely by machines. In 2012, Noro Knitting Magazine initiated publication, which features knit and crochet patterns specifically designed for use with the yarns.”
