Knitters Care for the Environment

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle are three words we hear at holiday time. Part of being a knitter or maker is to avoid filling landfills with project odds and ends. For knitters, the constant concern is how to use scrap yarn or avoid wasteful packaging. We love how Noro redesigned his yarn put up by creating jumbo cake balls that hold as much yarn in one 200g jumbo cake ball to replace 4 skeins with all the waste yarn it creates.

Noro has been a pioneer in sustainable sourcing of his fibers and dye processes to minimize his footprint. The beautiful jumbo balls are wrapped like a present, perfect for a stocking stuffer, with a ball band that is not trash but a work of art in itself. Japanese are huge on gift-giving and the ribbon around the ball is reusable to wrap new gifts with. You may not think much of a few skeins, but when we multiply the number of knitters creating less waste 3 balls at a time, we can make a huge difference.

So enjoy your yarn and feel good about doing good as a knitter.

Happy Knitting!
