About Mrs. Knits

In honor of our website and new You Tube Channel “What’s on your Needles?”

It all started around 1979. Having come from a creative family, Bonnie’s grandmother inspired her with gorgeous heirloom quality hand knits. After she passed, Bonnie went to Germany and watched her mother knit and crochet. I was curious and inspired. I was 8 years old so a little young to start knitting. However a few years later as a teenager…

In 1984-85 a series of unrelated events led Bonnie to learn knitting. Part of it was she was trying to learn bicycle repairs and failed to get along with the teenage boys. The other element is that the Seattle, WA (USA) school district had a 4 week long teacher’s strike. Summer was over and Bonnie was bored like any 14 year old with too much time on their hands with too little to do. She commandeered the basement, filled it with yarn, a knitting machine and everything hand knitting.

As Mrs. Knits moved on to her 20’s she was a fixture at the Seattle Area local yarn shop scene. She knitted full-time even nights and weekends when she had a day job. She doesn’t write or follow patterns. Mrs. Knits can “see” sweaters in her head and specializes in Noro Yarn creations.

While she opened Mrs. Knits Yarn Shop in 2005, she also opened a brick and mortar shop to expand her reach. Unfortunately the 2009 recession made in impractical to keep her shop open. But Ebay has thrived for many years.

In 2019, thanks to Mr. Knits purchasing a home, Mrs. Knits moved her yarn shop into the house before the furniture arrived! Then in late 2020, Mr. Knits left his career as a Data Analyst to join Mrs. Knits and overhaul the shipping and operations of the shop to free her up to focus on creative development.

Today, July 2021 we are pleased to present our new website. It was 2 years from idea to our grand opening today. See, Ebay was the perfect platform to launch MKYS 16 years ago. We are still going to sell there, but the selections will change. Ebay was a wonderful launch pad for a new business. More about that in a different blog. However, as a discount yarn outlet, it did limit our ability to showcase fresh new yarn designs.

So today, July 7, 2021, we are so proud to release our new website! To kick it off we are premiering “What’s on your Needles?” A You Tube Channel where we can share our passion for knitting and the antics of Mr. and Mrs. Knits.

Loyal Ebay customers: We love you. Your support made this happen. We promise to continue offering super deals on discount designer yarns.

So if you follow us from Ebay or not, you are welcome to subscribe to our channel and enjoy the free content perfect for Happy Knitting!
