LYKKE Reboot

Our past experience has made us good at what we do in Mrs. Knits Yarn Shop. In her “past life”, Mrs. Knits used to to merchandising - going to retail stores throughout the greater Seattle area to set up or change store shelf displays. In his “past life”, Mr. Knits did something similar as a stock boy at the New Jersey retail chain Drug Fair.

There were enough changes in the LYKKE product lines to make some significant updates to that part of our store. That included a re-shuffling of store categories, ordering more shawl pins, and adding more wood grain choices for the yarn winders and umbrella swifts.

One of the wood grain updates is rather unusual: replacement of Rosewood with Sisham wood. This is because the Indian Rosewood was recently included on a protected species list, as being in danger of being harvested to extinction. We agree completely with our supplier and manufacturer in making this smart move.

We don’t see it as woke or any political stance. It’s similar to a farmer letting part of their fields lie fallow and not producing any crop, so the soil can naturally rejuvenate. If you feel strongly enough about it, where we have both Rosewood and Shisham available, you can specify one or the other in our contact form after ordering. You can read more about the Indian Rosewood situation here.

The other new wood grains are Acacia (a few shades lighter than Rosewood), Beechwood (even lighter than Mango wood), and Burnt Mango (a nice mottled variation darker than Mango wood). Not everything is available in all wood finishes, but it’s getting there.
