Out of the Box with Mr. Knits: What is Drop-Shipping?

No, it’s not what they do on a FedEx loading dock to boxes marked “fragile”. 😁

What that means, generically speaking, is that one entity takes an order, then directs another entity to ship the item to the customer. For Mrs. Knits Yarn Shop, it means you buy something from us, and I turn around and ask one of our wholesale suppliers to ship the item directly to you.

How will that affect your buying experience at Mrs. Knits Yarn Shop? Not at all when it goes smoothly. So don’t be shy! Most of our drop-ship offerings are LYKKE needle & hook sets, and KFI project kits.

You really want more details? Okay, here goes!

We officially call it a request for a drop ship product, because we don’t have full control over the supply chain. But we mitigate unexpected stock-outs by keeping one or two of those drop ship items in our warehouse anyway. So that is a case of our usual business practice to under-promise and over-deliver. What you request will almost certainly be delivered one way or another.

The process should be transparent on your end: we still pay for shipping (all drop ship stuff is over $40), and we’ll provide a shipping confirmation with tracking number within two or so business days. It just may be shipped from Long Island or Massachusetts instead of the Seattle area.

And if someone orders from the USA in the Mountain time zone, Pacific time zone, Alaska, Hawaii, or outside the USA, then I am more likely to ship the one we have on-hand. If we can do so, we don’t want to prolong the shipping time if we don’t have to. But if you are in USA’s Eastern or Central time zone, the drop ship is likely to get to you at the same speed or faster!

So this is pretty much another way to offer more yarn and tools to you, while keeping our costs down. I am a one-person shipping operation, so the ability to serve you by just filling out a form is a great option to have. Anything to get Happy Knitting (and Crocheting) into your hands sooner!
