Introducing Mrs. Knits Yarn Studio
You may find it odd that an announcement this big is not coming from Mrs. Knits herself. But when a queen ascends her throne, it is another authority that makes the proclamation.
In this case the throne is a cute little space on the west side of Bremerton, WA. In that Navy town just west of Seattle, Bonnie will eagerly wait for fellow knitters like you to make an appointment for a collaborative experience of setting up just the right knitting project for you. That’s where we differ from a local yarn shop (LYS). You’d be surprised how many people want us to compete with existing shops in a format with dwindling popularity. The typical LYS is struggling enough without us trying to muscle in. The LYS should still be available to those who want to browse a wide selection of yarn in-person.
When you walk into MKYStudio, it should feel less like a store and more like walking into the living room of a fellow fiber fanatic! With coffee or tea in-hand, your reserved time will be used to assemble a project with the help of fiber and color expert Mrs. Knits. Together you’ll select the right pattern and the right yarn(s) in the right colorway(s) to knit the garment you really want. We’ll also set you up with the tools and notions you need to make the magic happen! We’ll have needles, stitch markers, scissors, rulers, Soak wash, even some very nice yarn winders.
After you’ve made your selections, we’ll offer you a 2nd cup of coffee or tea while your order is assembled and brought to you - probably by me, Mr. Knits. You’ll have a simple but attractive bag to hold your project from start to finish.
At least for starters, we’ll be offering just Noro yarns in the Studio. But that’ll include a Studio exclusive of Noro Haunui, with colorways designed strictly with the natural colors of the sheep the merino wool came from on Taranui Farm in New Zealand - no dyes.
We decided on doing this by appointment for a few reasons. It just works so much better for Mrs. Knits personally. Knitters coming from out of town should be assured that we are ready to greet and serve them. Also that studio will be treated like an extension of our home. We always tell family and friends to just let us know in advance that they are going to visit - even if it’s just an hour or two beforehand. That’s because we take being a good host very seriously.
Oh I suppose you could make an appointment to come pick up a bunch of yarn, and we’ll make sure you are well-served and get what you want. Mrs. Knits will be only a little disappointed. That’s because setting up a fellow knitter for success in a fun collaboration is basically Mrs. Knits’ dream job!
